Despite talks to avert the strikes that look set to ruin holiday plans for many travellers in the New Year, they are still going to go ahead.

The Unite union and BAA met to discuss other plans of action and possible outcomes last week. However, officials have said that 24-hour strikes on January 7th and 14th will still go ahead as well as 48-hour strikes on January 17th and 18th.

The strike is occurring due to arguments over the BAA’s plans to end a final-salary pension scheme.

All seven BAA operated airports look set to be affected.
