Pilot makes ‘hero landing’ in storm March 3rd 2008 by Kirstie

_40145644_jetsearch203afp.jpg A pilot of a Lufthansa jet has been hailed a hero as he avoided crashing the jet during a violent storm.

137 passengers were on board the jet when it came under attack from 155mph winds when coming into land at Hamburg Airport, Germany.

When the jet came into land, winds pushed it to damage its wing on the tarmac. The jet was then pushed to one side, up in the air.

The pilot averted disaster by bringing the jet back up after applying full power and coming into land again.

Many of the passengers were said to have taken the landing badly and were reduced to tears.

The pilot was said to have landed the plane with ’skill and heroic calm.’
