Captain Peter Burkill was thought to have landed the BA aircraft yesterday in an emergency crash landing, however he revealed at a press conference that it was Senior First Officer John Coward who bought the plane down to land.

All 136 passengers and 16 crew members survived the crash with just a few being treated for minor injuries.

Peter Burkhill praised his crew and the passengers onboard the aircraft for a quick and safe evacuation.

BA staff are trained on a regular basis to deal with emergency situations and this certainly has paid off. There are certain procedures which have to be followed and it is important that everyone works as a team.

Mr Burkhill’s co-pilot was praised by him last night in a statements saying that John Coward did a ‘most remarkable job’ in landing the aircraft.

The crash has caused considerable delays at Heathrow airport today and people are advised to check with their airline before flying. BA have said that they hope to fly all of their longhaul flights today and 90% of their shorthaul flights. Yesterday over 200 flights were cancelled so it is important to check with your airline before you leave home for the airport.

An investigation has been launched into why the crash happened but it is alleged that the aircraft lost power just as it was coming in to land. The cause for this is unknown.
