Praia Da Luz - Located At The West End Of The Algarve Coast

Praia da Luz will appeal to a number of people from singles, to couples to families. Nature lovers, golfers and those of you who enjoy water sports will also enjoy your time in the resort. The transfer time for this resort from Faro airport is around 1 hour meaning you have plenty of time to look around at surrounding scenery, as well as get an idea of the location of the resort and the location of your accommodation within the resort. The beach at Praia da Luz is large and wide, covered in golden sands. It is backed by picturesque cliffs making it the ideal setting for a relaxing day. The beach can be crowded in the summer so get there early. There are lifeguards on duty and water sports are available. Most of the accommodation in Praia da Luz consists of self-catering apartments, however there are also a number of 4-star hotels offering half-board and all-inclusive.

There are a number of water sports on offer in Praia da Luz, such as, windsurfing, snorkelling, surfing, scuba diving, water-skiing, jet-skiing and paragliding. There are also plenty of walks that you can go on through the town or along the coast. There is a 16th century church in the town that has become the main historic monument and is definitely worth a look inside. Golf is a popular activity in the resort as well as horse-riding which many people enjoy as it is something different for them to do on holiday. There are also a number of local excursions for you to go on such as visits to Lagos and its local chapel, a trip to the Monchique Mountains, visit to Silves castle, a 12th century cathedral or go on a number of boat trips to places such as Praia da Rocha and Portimao. There is also a jeep safari through remote mountain hills, as well as the chance to visit Lisbon for shopping and sightseeing.

For some serious shopping you should take a trip to Lisbon. Public transport in the resort is good, with a regular bus service into Lagos where you can get connections to other resorts. Taxis can also be found in the resorts and can car hire.

The weather in Praia da Luz is what attracts to many people each year. The summers in Praia da Luz are long and dry with winters continuing to stay mild with limited rainfall. July and August are the hottest months in Praia da Luz with average temperatures reaching 30°C. You will also find up to 12 hours of sunshine a day meaning you have plenty of time to enjoy the day. The coastal breezes tend to keep the temperatures slightly lower to enable you to feel more comfortable in the heat. The spring and autumn is still warm with temperatures at 17-19°C. The coldest winter months are January and December although the temperature is till at around 15°C. There is also still around 6 hours of sunshine a day. From November to March is when most of the rainfall comes however on average there are only around 50 days of rainfall a year.
