Austria – a varied nightlife

Nightlife in Austria can be very lively, especially at the height of the winter season. There are a number of bars and pubs open until the early hours of the morning and some hotels put on their own shows. Disco's and clubs are also hugely popular all year round. All ages and interests are catered for and a variety of music can be found in all the clubs around Vienna. There are plenty of restaurants to enjoy offering a range of cuisines, as well as the facilities to eat in many of the hotels. When it comes to shopping, you will find everything from sports clothing to souvenirs. There are also many markets where you will find a number of bargains.

Austria – a variety of things to try

Austria is a very popular ski destination in the winter months. People of all ages fly to the country to stay in one of the many chalets and try skiing or snowboarding. Tuition is available and there are obviously facilities to hire skis. As well as skiing, you can go tobogganing, take sleigh rides, try curling or even skating. If you prefer not to ski then visiting Austria in the summer months would be better for you. This is the time when you can go hiking, bike riding and enjoy the sunshine in the valleys. There are also a number of wine-growing regions in Austria such as Burgenland which are popular among wine-tasters.

Austria – cold winters and warm summers

Average temperatures in July are around 19°C with an annual rainfall of around 80cm. In the Alps you will find short summers and long winters making it perfect for winter sports. Temperatures have been known to range from 20-35°C during the summer months and 0-4°C in the winter. Summer falls between June and August and this is also when you will find the most rainfall. December, January and February are the coldest winter months and Spring and Autumn bring varied weather and temperatures. At high altitudes the sun can be very strong, even in winter. The ski season runs between December and April as this is when the greatest amount of snow is around.
