    Hotel Miramar Pirate´s Gate  4-Star

The hotel was of good appearance, with great staff service and hospitality. The rooms are spacious, clean and have the adequate fixtures and fittings needed for a holiday. The food i wouldnt rate as fantastic due to the fact that many dishes were the same throughout my stay. The nightlife in and surrounding the hotel is great with nightclub inside the hotel and a restaurant and bar/nightclub 2 minutes walk from the hotel. I have stayed at this hotel twice before in 2010 and many changes have taken place since then. I would actually say that i have enjoyed the hotel more before these changes have been made.

    Riadh Palms Hotel  4-Star

A good hotel, although a little frayed around the edges. Outside pool area beautiful, but inside really needed a good clean and spruce up, though the water was a great temperature. Food was generally ok, but a bit difficult for vegetarians on some days. As it was low season, there were no problems with queues. Rooms were fine, very clean and ok facilities. No fridges but TV was ok. Balconies great but would recommend the sea view rooms. I would definitely stay there again and everyone I met there seemed happy with the hotel. 4* means 4* Tunisian rating, like a simple hotel in the UK, not a 4* British. The price is really good for what you get.

    Hotel Houria Palace  4-Star

We had a pleasant stay. We were not very impressed with the cleanliness, i.e. the hotel carpets on the third floor were well worn and were full of dust and the stairwell stairs were full of dust, i.e. 1st, 2nd and third floor. The room was clean. The catering was very poor. We found one member of the reception staff extremely unhelpful. Overall the staff were friendly but the hotel itself needs a complete refurbishment and we would definitely not rate this as a four star compared to other 4 star hotels in Port el Kantoui.

    Helya Beach & Spa  4-Star

Overall my partner and I enjoyed our stay and we've come to the conclusion that because we got the holiday fairly cheap, the standard of the hotel, service and food was worth as much as we paid, i.e. we got what we paid for. There were a few miserable members of staff, but this didn't really bother me or my partner. The food was pretty basic, however the desserts were delicious! We were the only English/British people in the hotel, and we were told that the resort of Monastir wasn't particularly popular with British Holiday Makers. The all inclusive board basis was good, however the alcohol was fairly watered down and they didn't serve actual pints of beer. So on the whole, if you book this hotel and you think you have got a bargain, then you haven't entirely. So my main tip would be not have great expectations, keep them moderate, because that's all the hotel was.

    El Hana Palace  5-Star

This was my third visit to the hotel and I just love it there. It's quite large, but not overwhelmingly so. The staff are friendly and helpful but not in your face all the time. The reception manager is excellent and if you have something that doesn't work in the room then it is quickly resolved in minutes. The food is good, with lots of choice and food is hot when it should be. The bar staff, the maids and the restaurant staff are all great. I enjoyed the pool area very much as you can hire a mattress and with it comes a towel, which the attendant brings for you. On the whole I can't fault it. although the hotel is looking a bit tired, they are gradually refurbishing rooms, etc. but these are minor issues and as long as I have somewhere to sleep and have a bath and get changed then I am happy. Speaking for myself I am looked after very well when I am at El Hana Palace.

Excellent hotel and facilities with great value for money and good service. Room very dated and would have been more enjoyable if did not smell of smoke so much. However spacious and comfy bed. Pool area very clean and tidy and lots of space. Beach excellent and relaxing with free water sports when you stay All Inclusive. Meal times were amazing with so much choice and something for everyone, you could not go hungry or moan. Waiters friendly and on the ball, although you are not obliged to give tips and I would never if felt I had to, it was beneficial to give a couple of dina at beginning of your hol and this assured 1.1 service during your duration and no need to ask for drinks they were there topping up. Overall really enjoyed weeks All Inclusive, relaxing and well paid holiday.

    El Mouradi Palm Marina  5-Star

Excellent holiday! I am sure I will return one day. The animation team were great and caring for both my 6 year old and in hosting sporting activities for my teenage son and husband. Staff were always professional and smiling. Food was excellent with much choice, fresh preparation of breakfast omelettes and pancakes by chef made in front of you, pizzas made to order, "pizza express" style at big pizza oven, only gripe is it could have been more varied, kiddie fare, as my younger son was a bit scared of Tunisian food (which was lovely). Accommodation tired but clean and we were very comfortable, couldn't quite understand why smoking permitted in family bar but not in more grown up piano bar. Kids watched shows and went to mini disco in thick haze of smoke. Entertainment was poor, husband and I don't care about that, but even kids thought it was lame, and for some who look forward to it expect to be disappointed. That said, day time activities great but not in your face so can have quiet relax by pool or beach if you so want. Waiters bring drinks to pool area and also down to beach, very hard working and kind. If you go for winter sun and weather not good, wonderful indoor pool, so good that kids chose to use it even in sunshine! Our only complaint was reception staff were a bunch of jobs-worth, unaccommodating, cold, uncaring clowns in the volcano-flight drama. Manager managed to upset my extremely placid and reasonable husband so much so that I've rarely seen him that angry. Saving grace was customer liason officer and assistant manager who were kind and helpful. Having said that how often does a crisis like that come along? A highly recommended hotel and resort, we loved it, didn't want to leave.

Hotel Houda Golf and Beach Club  3-Star

The complex is nice and the grounds are well kept. The animation team were great with kids and my little girl adored the mini disco. However, we found some of the people to be quite rude at times, the guys that sell anything from jewellery to excursions within the hotel could be quite pushy and sometimes nasty. The food was awful and the system that operates in the restaurant was chaos. The queues were dreadful and some people just pushed their way to the front. The main pool is beautiful and we did enjoy ourselves. The pools at the other side of the complex were not so good. One day there was excrement floating in the childrens pool and the lifeguards scooped it out and let children carry on playing. It was then pointed out to them that there was more excrement and it was all over the bottom of the pool - they just laughed, didn't clean it! The room was OK, aircon was very smelly though. It may not sound like it but we did enjoy ourselves, but this was more to do with the people we met and not the facility itself, which I would NEVER return to.

Houda Golf and Beach Club  3-Star

This is the first holiday review I have ever written, because I feel I owe it to people like me who might be some what misled by the others. You'll find this hotel either has 10/10 or 0/10 in its reviews, there is no way either of these do it justice. The majority of reviews are 10/10 which is why we picked it. (20-25 year old couple). However my expectations were not high, based on the price/star rating and the fact it’s All-Inclusive. Sadly, I was still disappointed. Aside from the food and people, the main problem to be honest was the location. It wasn't cheap to get anywhere (and there’s nothing there) and we had planned to go out and eat in the evenings, despite being All-Inclusive. This meant we were pretty much marooned there with the masses of what I would politely describe as 'Butlins-style clientele'. Unless you're a lady and being served by the male members of the staff, you may find them to be most miserable and stingy. If you are a lady however, you will find that they are all in love with you – despite being attached to your boyfriend for the duration of your stay! The food was what you can only expect of a 3 star All-Inclusive - very mediocre. One day they had watered down the ketchup! I laughed, asking if it was a Gazpacho, but no one who would stay in that resort would know what that means! There are 2 al-la-cart restaurants… they make for a nice change but are a bit laughable! Our worst meal of the week was in one of them – and that’s really saying something! It's fine if you are light-hearted and can just laugh at it all - the drinks definitely help take the edge off! I was fine, as for the first time ever I was happy to just sit next to the pool all day (but didn’t really go in as it was absolutely freezing!) and I liked playing table tennis and bowels. So if you’re not into your eating or culture or beaches (as the sea/beach was pretty grim) it’s OK, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is after a beautiful holiday. I have been to many places on similar budgets and this has been my only disappointment (I'm not that difficult to please). I'm just glad I didn't waste 2 weeks of my holiday on it! When you get there, you will realise who writes all the great reviews on it! Sorry if this is you, it’s just not my kind of social scene! In conclusion, not awful but don't get your hopes up. I would say it's definitely worth spending the extra £40 to stay somewhere else! 4/10 from me. Oh and if you do go, it's only £8 in a taxi from the airport.
