    Olgas Paradise

When we arrived at Olgas Paradise she did not have our details and knew nothing of our arrival. I did show Olga the accommodation voucher we were sent but she said that meant nothing to her. In the end she relented and told us to go to a room which was basement level and also a studio, we booked a one bedroomed apartment so were not happy with this room. We went back to Olga to point out the room details, she then told us to go to another room overlooking the pool which was a one bedroomed apartment - which apparently was not originally available, according to Olga. I thought a microwave and TV would be in the room as advertised but we didn't get any of these - not that we needed them. We hired a fan at 4 euros a day as there was no air con available. On the whole the room was OK and the beds were comfortable, there were plenty of storage space. We could have done with more towels (only two provided) and the beds could have been changed during our stay, they were made twice but not changed. She also emptied the bins regularly. We did not use the pool area even though it looked great. There were no atmosphere and the sun beds were uncomfortable. We went over the road to use the pool there as the place felt more welcoming and the beds had cushions and they also had a snack bar which we used. After reading some reports on this accommodation I would like to say I found Olga friendly but cannot report on anything else as we did not use the facilities provided as we did not feel the place was inviting. After saying the above, we did enjoy our holiday nonetheless but I think this was mostly due to the other accommodation we used across the road - nicer pool, good snack pool and made welcome. Would we go there again - no. We like Greece and will go back but to another island.

    Mitsis Blue Domes Exclusive  5-Star

Hotel constantly overbooks rooms as confirmed by Thomas Cook rep, 75% of the people we spoke to either didn't get the room they paid for or were even sent to another hotel for the first night! We paid for a family room with room divide and I emailed the hotel twice prior to departure to confirm this, which they did. It didn't make any difference, we turned up and were allocated to a makeshift room for 4 people with no room divide for first 2 nights of a 10 night stay until they could get us the room we paid for. Hotel did offer compensation, but it's not the point, it just leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth. Hotel facilities are really disjointed, main restaurant and entertainment are up a steep hill at the top of the complex (this hotel really isn't suited for elderly guests). Majority of the bookable restaurants are right at the bottom by the beach and you really get fed up with then having to walk half a mile up a serious incline to get a drink at the main bar. A lot of people just go to the pool bar in the middle of the resort and avoid the entertainment altogether, even though it's pretty small. There is a real issue with a constant sewerage smell in the open air entertainment area that leaves you with a raw throat each night after only an hour there (if you can stand it for that long) Food really isn't the best quality either compared to a lot of other cheaper all inclusives we've been on. If I were you and wanted a Mitsis holiday, I'd go to the Mitsis Roda Beach on Corfu which will save you a substantial amount of cash. The food was excellent, the Staff really cared about what they were doing and the Hotel layout actually made sense. Suffice to say we wouldn't go back, be warned.

    Aspro Spiti

We had a lovely 2 weeks at the Aspro Spiti. Kids spent hours playing in the pool and pool times were not strictly enforced which was good if you wanted to swim at 8 in the morning or 7 in the evening. The Greek night on Sunday was lovely, the food was brilliant and terrific value at just 5 Euros. We enjoyed it so much the first week that we went again the second week. Rooms were nice enough, but the balcony was very small and the air conditioning unit indoors was too close to the bed so instead of cooling to room it blasted cold air at us. The outdoor unit wasn't very well positioned either as it was on the balcony floor tucked away into an enclosed area of the balcony. View from balcony wasn't brilliant - back of the supermarket but as the balcony was so small we didn't spend much time there in any case. One of the bedside lights was damaged and we put a note on the reception desk asking for it to be repaired but this didn't happen. Toilet seat kept falling off, but we coped. The hotel staff were very friendly and our daughter loved playing with little Alexandra. The maids kept the room clean and tidy changing the sheets and towels every 3-4 days. The hotel is conveniently situated next to the local supermarket so our fridge was permanently stocked up with cold drinks as was the pool bar which was open for most of the day. Catering facilities consisted of a kettle, 2 ring hob and microwave which was adequate for our purposes.

    Olga's Paradise Apartments  3-Star

Nice setting in lovely gardens, rooms well designed to get lots of shade so not too hot and stuffy. Most activity goes on around the pool which makes it easy to get on with other guests, but there are loungers in quiet corners if you want a peaceful day. Close enough to Kos town for a walk out (15 mins), far enough for a relaxing holiday. Beach nothing to right home about, it's shingle. However, if hire bike, quad or car there's other nicer ones not too far away. And the hot springs are well worth visit.

Very pleasant hotel. Excellent location, right on the beach and plenty of good tavernas within walking distance. The hotel also has a very good restaurant. My only negative comment is that we booked bed & breakfast and the breakfast served was of a poor standard on par to the actual restaurant itself. Great relaxing place.

    Hotel Iris  3-Star

I could not fault this hotel at all. The building itself was clean and well maintained. The pool area was immaculate with comfy padded sunbeds and plenty of space. The pool bar was reasonably priced and the food was of a high quality, especially the greek dishes. The cocktails were fantastic. The rooms were basic but spotlessly clean with everything you need. The Iris is located a short stroll from a handful of bars and restaurants and over the road from a supermarket. It is an easy 20 min walk in to Kos town and the route is lined with bars, shops and restuarants. The family that ran the hotel were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to return to the Iris. I found it exceptional value for money.

    Alexandra Beach Hotel  4-Star

Our week late September was excellent value! We enjoyed a week of sunshine with a fantastic pool to cool off in. Comfortable sunbeds and sunshades to relax on. Our room was a pleasant surprise, with a separate kitchen area. Nice little veranda and daily maid service by friendly cleaners. Breakfast was plentiful and bar staff friendly. Quieter area of the resort but a short bus/taxi ride to main centre. We will definitely be looking to go back next year for a late Summer break.

    Mitsis Ramira Beach Hotel  5-Star

The hotel itself was excellent, with great service provided from its friendly staff. The restaurant, bars and other general areas were very pleasantly furnished and decorated. Bedrooms were nicely decorated but the beds and bedding let them down. Our balcony was situated above the main restaurant so we didn't have a pleasant view and couldn't leave doors open for the noise of the ventilation fans, etc. The range of sporting / animation activities on offer were expansive with something to keep you occupied most of the day. There was a wide range of food on offer, which was generally well prepared and warm, although after a week it got very repetitive. The two things that let the hotel down for me were 1) salt water swimming pool 2) the beach, which is a scruffy looking shingle/stoney beach making it hard for children to swim and enjoy. If this hotel was situated on a nice sandy beach then I would definitely return.

    Hermes Hotel  3-Star

Overall we had an excellent stay at the Hermes. The family were very welcoming; room 324 had everything we needed in it with the bonus of a fantastic view over the bay, hills and pool;the whole hotel was kept exceptionally clean and the car we hired from the hotel was adequate for our needs and was probably the cheapest in Kalymnos at 25 euros per day. Virtually the only moans we heard all week were about the breakfasts - toast or cereal and coffee with everything else charged as extras. Was there anything we'd have done differently? Only that we'd have gone B&B rather than half board - dinners were tasty (if a little small sometimes) and starters generally included Greek salad, which would also inevitably be a part of our main course (the same with the potato salad starter, which also came as the veg with our main!) There were lots of restaurants to try at around the same price as we were charged for half board so it's worth looking around. Finally, there's no getting around the fact that it's an uphill walk from the town to the hotel, it's an uphill walk to the old town from the hotel and the hotel itself is on the side of a hill with steps leading everywhere - the upsides are great views and it's quiet (but it's not for the less able or infirm) We liked it a lot!

We enjoyed ourselves very much. George, Katerina and Francis made us very welcome. Our bedroom was small but had all the facilities we needed. We especially appreciated the swimming pool after being on the beach. The two things that we could complain about were that the pillows were too small and sometimes the towels didn't smell very good! We would like to go again.

    Pantheon  2-Star

Stayed one week in September. Wish it could have been 2. Many praises on the Pantheon. Next to nothing bad to report. Hotel: Very good condition and clean. basic Greek style which is no complaint. Lovely pool with superb views. Staff very welcoming and attentive. Hotel had many repeat customers. Change of towels and sheets every 2-3 days. Bar prices average. Harsh walk up the hill to the excellent views but this is no problem as there is a regular and prompt courtesy bus. Annoying double single beds.. but this is what is in 90% of hotel rooms in Greece.

    Mammis Beach Studios  3-Star

The Mammis Beach is not a very large place (about 20 studios i think) and actually if you like somewhere a bit more personal and quiet then it would suit. I'm a believer that you do get what you pay for, and at the time i went, it was quite good value for money. However, this is very definitely a 'no frills' place. I think the word 'studios' is slightly ambitious, i expected to be able to actually 'self cater' however in our 'studio' we had a fridge, a sink and a kettle. no way of preparing food unless it was cold. there were two plates (no bowls - tricky for cereal!). Very basic. The maid service was good, but basic and only a change of sheets/towels seemed to be done. I felt the cleanliness of the bathroom left a lot to be desired unfortunately. it needed a really good scrub! Air conditioning was offered, but at 35 euros a week i thought a bit steep (but we were on a budget). The Mammis is also a 25 minute walk into the town of Kardamena, its a straight road into town, but is bit of a trek. The hotel has a bar, and offers meals, breakfasts etc.
