Sinhala Food and Drink
Rice is the basic ingredient of most meals, the main meal usually comprises one curry dish (chicken, lamb, beef, fish or prawn) with a selection of vegetarian or lentil dishes. These are served with side dishes of chutney and pickle. Sninbol is a typical Sri Lankan side dish - a potent paste blended from onion, coconut, chilli, lime juice and dried fish and served with rice. Many Sri Lankans, both Hindu and Buddhist, follow a vegetarian diet at least part of the time, and Sri Lanka is an excellent destination for vegetarians. Lion lager is the country's main brand of beer.
Sinhala Attractions
Sri Lanka has a near-unique combination of tropical sunshine and superb beaches with a fascinating and colourful culture. Fascinating heritage sites worth a visit are Anuradhapura, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa (the so-called 'Cultural Triangle'), a visit to the primal jungles of the Ruhuna National Parkb is recommended, as well as scuba diving on the south coast and a visit to the botanical gardens.
