Monte Gordo is a resort that appeals to middle market families looking for a relaxing holiday. Couples of all ages also enjoy the resort as well as singles. The transfer time for this resort is one hour 20 minutes. This gives you plenty of time to look around at the surrounding scenery of the resort as well as gain an understanding of the location of the resort and the location of your accommodation within the resort. The beach at Monte Gordo is long and covered with fine, golden sands. It is backed by sand dunes and there are plenty of sunbeds and parasols for you to use. Lifeguards are also present at the beach. There is a variety of accommodation in Monte Gordo from a campsite to apartments to hotels. Most of the apartments are self-catering and around 3-star with most of the hotels being half-board or all-inclusive and 4-5-stars.
Monte Gordo has little to do during the day other than relax along the beach or by the pool. Many people however, do enjoy the boat cruise as it is something different for them to do. If you enjoy nature, then you should take the time to visit Sapal Nature Reserve or Ria Formosa nature reserve which has plenty of endangered birds to look at. There is a medieval castle for you to go and visit as well as the Monchique Mountains and other castles. There are trips for you to go on such as to Seville or the Old Algarve for sightseeing and shopping.
Monte Gordo has got quite a few restaurants offering specialities of Portuguese cuisine and seafood. However, if this is not to your taste then do not panic, as you will also find a lot of international cuisine as well. Chinese, Indian, Italian, French and British cuisines can all be found in Monte Gordo. Nightlife in Monte Gordo is quieter than other resorts, however this is a casino, ballroom dancing, bars and live entertainment in hotels for you to enjoy. There is also a nightclub for those of you who like to party through the night. There are a few clothing and shoe shops in Monte Gordo as well as souvenir shops and craft shops. Supermarkets are scattered around the resort. Public transport in Monte Gordo is good with regular buses taking you to resorts such as Tavira. A taxi rank is located near the casino.
The weather in the Monte Gordo is what attracts to many people each year. The summers in the Monte Gordo are long and dry with winters continuing to stay mild with limited rainfall. July and August are the hottest months in the Monte Gordo with average temperatures reaching 30°C. You will also find up to 12 hours of sunshine a day meaning you have plenty of time to enjoy the day. The coastal breezes tend to keep the temperatures slightly lower to enable you to feel more comfortable in the heat. The spring and autumn is still warm with temperatures at 17-19°C. The coldest winter months are January and December although the temperature is till at around 15°C. There is also still around 6 hours of sunshine a day. From November to March is when most of the rainfall comes however on average there are only around 50 days of rainfall a year.
