Jamaica is a destination that attracts a wide range of people from couples to families. It is the perfect honeymoon destination with upmarket hotels and gorgeous beaches. You will find a lot of all-inclusive options in Jamaica and many hotels are located along the beachfront. Hotels in Jamaica range from 1 to 5-stars, however you are more likely to find some in the higher categories. The beaches in Jamaica are absolutely fabulous, with swaying palm trees, soft golden sands and clear turquoise waters. The water is generally warm and calm, making it perfect for swimming. The beaches near Negril are said to be some of the best in Jamaica.
Water sports are a favourite activity in Jamaica thanks to the luxurious beaches. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, a serious water sports fan or just looking for some fun, you will be catered for. Rafting and white water rafting is hugely popular and is brilliant to get the adrenalin going. Scuba diving and snorkelling are also very popular, with a number of ship wrecks, coral reefs and marine life to view. Water temperatures are normally around 27°C, making the conditions perfect. Other water sports include sailing, jet-skiing, water-skiing and paragliding. Hiking through the island comes highly recommended, especially on the Blue Mountains and the Rio Grande Valley. Horse riding is a brilliant way to get around Jamaica and take in the sights of the countryside. You can even have a horse ride along the beach.
Jamaican food is very popular, with some of it being very hot and others leaving out the chilli peppers and spices. Many of the local dishes will include meat, poultry, fruit, vegetables and a lot of seafood. There are no licensing hours in Jamaica so the bars can therefore open and close whenever they want to. Tipping is banned in a number of all-inclusive resorts and other hotels and restaurants, generally add on a 10% extra tip as standard. Live reggae music can be found throughout the island and live steel bands can be found in many towns. A number of nightclubs can be found in Jamaica which stay open late into the night. Shopping can be done in many of the resorts, as you will find clothing, crafts and a number of bargains to enjoy.
Jamaican weather is brilliant all year and rarely falls below 30°C. You will receive between 8-10 hours of sunshine a day and as it can be hot, it is recommended that you get air conditioning in your accommodation. The cooling sea breeze keeps the levels of humidity low, helping to keep you at a more comfortable temperature. The rainy months are May and October, however showers can occur at any time but are usually quite short. Between June and November is hurricane season.
