Mykonos Town is the capital of Mykonos and the main port. Mykonos Town holidays appeal to people looking to spend their days sightseeing or lazing around at the beach and for people who enjoy a lively and upbeat nightlife. The transfer time from the airport into the resort is only 10-15 minutes, giving you plenty of time in the resort itself. Mykonos Town beach is next to the harbour so a better option is Megali Ammos beach which has fine pale sand that leads down to the shallow waters. The beach is safe for children however it is important that they are still accompanied at all times. Sunbeds and parasols are available and many boat trips can be taken from the beaches and the harbour. Accommodation in Mykonos Town consists of hotels, apartments and villas. The majority of the accommodation ranges from 2-4-stars however there are a few 5-star options available. The apartments offer a self-catering board basis, however the hotels offer half-board or all-inclusive.
Mykonos Town has plenty of sights for you to go and enjoy. You can enjoy white washed houses, a variety of churches and monasteries, picturesque narrow lanes, a modern port, and an array of shops. The Little Venice District in the resort is very attractive with a number of tall Venetian houses for you to look at. There are two harbours located in Mykonos Town where you can go on a fishing trip, watch the ferries come and go or go on a boat trip yourself. There are a number of galleries and museums for you to explore which will give you a feel towards the culture and history of the resort. There are plenty of boat trips to go on that will take you to other resorts on the island or to neighbouring islands.
Mykonos Town has a number of restaurants for you to choose from as well as a wide number of cuisines. The most common cuisine available is Greek as well as seafood. However, if you prefer more international cuisines then you will also be able to find Chinese, Italian, Indian and British. The nightlife is Mykonos Town is the liveliest on the whole island. You will find a number of bars offering cocktails, live music and Greek evenings. You will also find some all-night discos and nightclubs to enjoy. Elsewhere, you will also find local bars a taverns as well as beach bars offering music and dancing. Mykonos Town has clothing, jewellery, souvenirs, leather goods, perfumes and crafts available. There are buses taking you around to various resorts as well as taxis which are available at set fares. You can also hire bikes or cars or take ferries to other islands.
Mykonos Town enjoys a Mediterranean climate of very long and hot summers. July and August are the hottest months in the resort with an average temperature of 25°C although this commonly rises to highs of well over 30°C. May is the official start to the summer with temperatures at 21°C which quickly rises to 25°C by June. There is normally no rainfall over July and August and the evenings remain hot at highs of 22°C. July and August see 12 hours of sunshine a day which drops to around 5 hours a day in the winter. Spring and Autumn are pleasant times to come if you are not keen on very hot weather, with temperatures mostly ranging between 16-20°C. Winters tend to be mild in Mykonos Town with temperatures staying at around 10°C. Between October and May you can expect to see some rainfall but not to the extent that we are used to. December if the wettest month in Mykonos Town however it still tends to remain fairly warm.
