Lixouri is a resort that appeals to people looking to enjoy low-key holidays where they can relax and enjoy the traditional Greek experience. Hiring a car in the resort would be an advantage but is not overly necessary. The transfer time for this resort can be up to 1 and a half hours meaning you have plenty of time to take in all of the surrounding scenery that you pass as well as gain an understanding of the location of the resort and the location of your accommodation within the resort. There is a beach in the resort, although it is rather basic. A better option is the nearby Lepeda Beach which has fine sand leading down to the shallow waters. Other beaches also offer sunbeds and parasols as well as a number of water sports for your enjoyment. There are a number of hotels in Lixouri as well as a number of self-catering apartments. The accommodation is mainly 3-4-stars, with the hotels offering half-board and all-inclusive options.
Lixouri has a number of places for you to go and explore, such as the ancient town of Pali at Palaeokastro or the Lakovatios Library which has an extensive, historical book collection. The beach life is mainly located near the resort with a number of water sports available such as windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, jet-skiing, water-skiing, paragliding and hiring out pedalloes. Many people choose to go swimming at the beach in Lixouri itself. There are a number of local excursions available to you such as tours of the peninsula with its many monasteries, the local winery or even go to Argostoli for a days shopping and exploring. If this is still not enough for you then why not try one of the whole island tours where you will see things such as the Drogarati Cave and the Melissani lake grotto.
There are a number of taverns and restaurants for you to choose from in Lixouri traditionally offering the local Greek cuisine and seafood. There are a few places which offer more international cuisines, especially the hotels, even though Lixouri is famous locally for its ice cream. The nightlife in the resort is very low key with the main entertainment coming from the taverns and the bouzouki club which offers traditional music. Shopping in the resort consists of a few souvenir shops, some clothing boutiques and shoe shops. Argostoli has many more options available and is well worth a trip. Public transport in the resort is fairly good with buses taking you into Argostoli on a daily basis as well as a local ferry doing the same. Car and motorbike hire are available if you would prefer to get yourself around.
Lixouri has brilliant weather with over 300 days of sunshine per year. Summers in Lixouri are long and hot with winters being cool and wet. The average annual temperature is around 17.5°C however temperatures have been known to rise to 27°C and above. In April, the average temperature is around 15°C but rises to 20°C in May. April and May have around 8 hours of sunshine a day, with this rising to 12 in July and August. October and September still see temperatures of around 17-23°C and 6-8-hours of sunshine a day. November to February, temperatures drop and you will see more rainfall.
