Myrtos Bay is backed by limestone cliffs, with golden sands that lead down to the turquoise waters edge. Facilities on the beaches include sunbeds, parasols and refreshments. There are also a number of water sports available. All of the beaches also have the European Blue Flag for the high levels of cleanliness. Kefalonia is home to some brilliant beaches and in turn some brilliant water sports. Cycling and horse-riding are also popular and are brilliant ways of getting around and looking at scenery. Horse-riding along the coastline is a must, especially at sunset. Glass-bottomed boats are popular in Kefalonia and there are also many other boat trips available. Day trips include visiting other nearby islands or resorts, seeing the Caves of Melissani and Drogorati or visiting the neighbouring island of Ithaka.
Kefalonia has a wide number of restaurants on offer, many of which offer traditional and local Greek cuisine. A number of them also offer a lot of seafood. As well as this, there are plenty of other cuisines on offer such as Italian, Chinese, British and Indian. Many of the hotels usually have the more international options. The nightlife in Kefalonia varies depending on which resort you are staying in. Some are very quiet whereas others aren't, with a selection of bars, clubs and pubs. There is a selection of music available and many places offer the chance for you to dance all night long. Shopping in the resort varies, however you will find souvenirs, clothing, jewellery and other crafts available in various resorts. Public transport includes buses and taxis that take you around to the various resorts.
Kefalonia has brilliant weather with over 300 days of sunshine per year. Summers in Kefalonia are long and hot with winters being cool and wet. The average annual temperature is around 17.5°C however temperatures have been known to rise to 27°C and above. In April, the average temperature is around 15°C but rises to 20°C in May. April and May have around 8 hours of sunshine a day, with this rising to 12 in July and August. October and September still see temperatures of around 17-23°C and 6-8-hours of sunshine a day. November to February, temperatures drop and you will see more rainfall.
