Ios is a brilliant island, and has a very lively party atmosphere, particularly in the high season. Groups of couples and singles flock to the resort at this time of year for lively evenings. Families also go to the resort but some choose to go out of high season to avoid the party scene. The beaches in Ios are some of the best in Greece, particularly Ormos and Mylopotas beaches. All beaches are long and wide, providing a lot of space for many tourists. The beaches are covered in fine, pale sand, leading down to the waters edge. Water sports, sunbeds and parasols are all available at the beach and the clean, shallow water makes it safe for children and swimming. Accommodation in the resort is good, with a number of hotels available ranging from 2-4-stars. Accommodation for party-goers is more upmarket than in other resorts, with many of the hotels offering room only, self-catering, half-board and all-inclusive.
Ios is a brilliant beach island that is perfect for spending the day relaxing. If you prefer to be slightly more active during the day, then why not try one of the many water sports available down at the beach. These include windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, jet-skiing, water-skiing, paragliding or even hiring out pedalloes. Swimming and boat trips are also popular. There are also plenty of local excursions for you to choose from. These include taking air-conditioned buses to other beaches, visit carious historical sites such as Homer's Tomb or go on one of the many boat trips with drink, a barbecue or a picnic.
Ios is home to some brilliant restaurants, many with traditional Greek cuisine. Another speciality in Ios is seafood. Many of the Greek restaurants also offer Italian foods such as pasta and pizza which are very popular among people looking for more familiar cuisines. There are a number of places such as bakeries and kebab shops that stay open into the night for you to enjoy after a lively evening partying. There are many bars and clubs available in Ios which offer lively atmospheres, loud music, cocktails and entertainment through the night. Shopping is not brilliant on the island, with mainly clothing, souvenirs and crafts on sale. Public transport is very good, with buses running between various resorts, a number of taxis being available and various places offering car and moped hire.
Ios has brilliant weather with over 300 days of sunshine per year. Summers in Ios are long and hot with winters being cool and wet. The average annual temperature is around 17.5°C however temperatures have been known to rise to 27°C and above. In April, the average temperature is around 15°C but rises to 20°C in May. April and May have around 8 hours of sunshine a day, with this rising to 12 in July and August. October and September still see temperatures of around 17-23°C and 6-8-hours of sunshine a day. November to February, temperatures drop and you will see more rainfall.
