Gouves is a resort that appeals to couples and families on most budgets. The nightlife is fairly tame in the resort, however neighbouring resorts are quite lively. The transfer time from the airport into the resort is around 30 minutes. This is short so may give you enough time to look around at the surrounding scenery. The good thing about a short transfer is that you have plenty of time to spend in the resort itself. The beach in Gouves is long and wide, covered in golden sands leading down to the waters edge. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire and most of the hotels organise water sports. Lifeguards attend some of the beaches but they are mostly considered safe for swimming. There is a good mix of both hotels and self-catering apartments in Gouves. The hotels range from 2-4-star with the occasional 5-star. Hotels also offer half-board or all-inclusive.
Gouves is a relaxing resort during the day with everyone choosing to lay by the pool or at the beach. There are also a number of water sports available at the beach. These include windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, jet-skiing, water-skiing, sailing and you can also hire out pedalloes. There are plenty of excursions for you to go on, including a trip to the archaeological museum in Heraklion and the Minoan Palace of Knossos, a trip to Malia, a boat trip to Santorini, trips to other resorts in Crete or on other islands, a visit to Aghios Nikolaos or Chania and even the Samaria Gorge.
Gouves has a selection of taverns and restaurants for you to choose from. Most of these will offer you a more traditional, local, Greek cuisine and seafood, however, if this is not for you then stay in and eat at the hotels where you will find something more familiar on the wide range of international menus. Nightlife in the resort is not very lively, however there are a few bars and taverns for you to enjoy. You will find that a number of the hotels put on some brilliant evening entertainment for you to enjoy. Shopping is fairly basic in the resort with hotel shops, supermarkets and souvenir shops. If you prefer a wider range then head to Hersonissos or Heraklion.
