Elounda – located on the east of Crete

Elounda is a brilliant resort that offers something for everyone. Whether you are on a budget or looking for luxury, you will find something of use to you in the resort. The transfer time is fairly long at 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes. Although this may sound like a long time, it still gives you plenty of time to look around at the surrounding scenery that Crete and its resorts have to offer. It also gives you time to gain an idea of the location of the resort and the location of your accommodation within the resort. The beach in Elounda is man-made, covered in golden sand leading down to the waters edge. Better beaches can be found in other nearby resorts. You will find a number of 2-5-star hotels and self-catering apartments. All accommodation is fairly close to the centre of town and most hotels offer you half-board or all-inclusive.

Elounda – plenty of water sports for you to enjoy

Elounda is home to some brilliant water sports down at the beach. They include windsurfing, surfing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling and sailing. If this is not for you, then why not join others and spend the day sunbathing either at the beach or by the pool. There are plenty of local boat trips that take you to other resorts on the island of Crete or to nearby islands. There are also a number of archaeological sites and walking trails for you to enjoy which give you some brilliant views of the local area. As well as this, there are a number of excursions for you to enjoy. These include boat trips and fishing trips, a visit to the Venetian fortress on Spinalonga Island, a trip to Aghios Nikolaos, a visit to Minoan palace of Knossos and a trip to the Heraklion archaeological museum.

Elounda – a number of eateries to choose from

Elounda has a number of restaurants for you to choose from, mainly offer traditional Greek cuisine and seafood. For more international dishes, you want to stay in and eat in the hotels where you will find a wide variety of cuisines to choose from. Nightlife in the resort is good as you can choose from a sophisticated evening, dining and dancing, or choose something more lively such as the discos, bars or taverns. The hotels tend to have sophisticated evenings with music and dancing. Shopping in Elounda is limited with a few supermarkets, souvenir shops and the odd jewellery store. There are a couple of expensive boutiques, however for a wider choice head to Aghios Nikolaos. Public transport in the resort is fairly limited, however there are hourly buses going into Aghios Nikolaos. There are also many local taxis available and car hire if needed.

Elounda – plenty of sunshine all year round

Elounda summer season lasts from April until October and it tends to be very hot and dry and then mild in the winter. However all year round, the weather is good making it an ideal holiday destination all year round. From the beginning of the summer in April, the temperatures are already around 18°C and there are around 8 hours of sunshine a day. Temperatures continue to rise throughout the summer with them peaking at around 27°C in August. By then, there are 13 hours of sunshine a day. There is a gentle coastal breeze that keeps the temperature at a manageable level. From September to October there are 9-11 hours of sunshine a day and temperatures still remain at around 20°C. The winter rainfall starts in December, however the wettest months are January and February. There is a minimum of 4 hours of sunshine a day in this period with temperatures dropping to around 12°C.
