Barbados is a top tourist's destination and attracts thousands of people every year, even though it is one of the smaller Caribbean islands. With pale yellow sands and gorgeous turquoise waters, it is definitely a must-see destination. You will fly into Grantley Adams International Airport and from there take your transfer to where ever you are staying. Families, couples on a romantic getaway or honeymoon and even groups of friends can be seen travelling to Barbados. People who enjoy water sports also regularly visit the island. The west coast of Barbados is home to the most beautiful beaches on the island with pale sands and turquoise warm waters. All of the beaches have public access and the south and east coast offers the best beaches for water sports. Accommodation in Barbados is of good quality and you will find many 3-5-star hotels and apartments. Most have swimming pools, as well as spas, gymnasiums and an all-inclusive package.
Barbados has some fabulous beaches and therefore has some brilliant water sports for you to try. The most popular of the water sports are snorkelling and scuba diving. These are available on the majority of the beaches and you can have full instruction if you need it. All of the equipment is ready to hire, including the tanks and even underwater cameras. You will find a lot of marine life, including tropical fish and sea turtles as well as a lot of corals. Shipwrecks can also be seen in some areas. Other water sports include windsurfing and surfing, which are best done on the southern and eastern beaches thanks to the weather conditions, fishing, sailing and sea cruises on yachts, catamarans, submarines and glass-bottomed boats. One of the best sea cruises off the island is the pirate ship cruise which will enable you to see various sights. Kite-surfing, kayaking and paragliding are also options. If you would prefer to stay on land, then you can try horse-riding. This is a brilliant way to get round Barbados and see various sights. You can take a tour on horse back or have full instruction into how to ride a horse. Golf is also popular, as well as tennis and cricket which can be played at some hotel grounds. Barbados has a lot of culture and festivals are held throughout the year to celebrate this. Farley Hill National Park and Harrison’s Cave are must-sees and give you a perfect excuse to go sightseeing.
When it comes to eating out, Barbados has some brilliant options. Many of the hotels are all-inclusive and offer some brilliant cuisines. Prices can be fairly expensive in some places and more affordable in others. Smart/Casual is the general dress code in most restaurants, including in the hotels. Cuisines available include a lot of seafood, Indian, Greek, Chinese, Polynesian and Italian. If you want something familiar then you will find some KFC outlets in some areas. There are many Barbados specialities available as well. Many of the hotels have a good selection of nightlife. Many have live music shows in their hotels including reggae, steel bands and jazz bands. As well as this you will find many other performances such as dances on show. Barbecue evenings are also not uncommon. If you decide to venture out of your accommodation then you will find a number of bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants. Bridgetown and St Lawrence Gap are the liveliest resorts in Barbados. Duty-free shopping in the resort is very popular and you will find clothing, designer clothing, jewellery, cosmetics, tobacco, leather, alcohol and perfumeries. Rum is a very popular thing for tourists to buy while in the Caribbean. Buses in the resort are good as they are usually on time and cheap. Taxis are also good and generally have reasonable fares; however it is important to agree the price before you get into the taxi.
Barbados is a tropical paradise and has hot temperatures of around 30°C every day. Down along the coast you will find pleasant sea breezes that keep you comfortable in the heat and warm water temperatures of around 25°C. May, June, August and September are the hottest months in Barbados; however mid-December to mid-April is the high season as there is little humidity and very little rain. During the evenings, the temperatures do decrease to 21-23°C, making it slightly more comfortable. Although May is a dry month, the humidity does creep up and it can become very hot. On average, you will find around 9 hours of sunshine a day, making it perfect for sunbathing. June to November is known as the rainy season; however you will still find a lot of sunshine and high temperatures. When there is rainfall, it is over very quickly and soon almost un-noticeable.
