The resort is quiet and peaceful and is especially popular with couples. The airport transfer time is around 20 minutes so you have plenty of time to soak up the sun in the resort. The beach in Playa de los Cancajos is very appealing with its fine, dark sands and crystal clear waters. The beach has been awarded with the European Blue Flag for its cleanliness and it is very safe for children. There are many hotels in the resort ranging from 2-5-star and the majority of them offer a half board basis.
There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied and one of the most popular activities is hiking. You can hike up to Taburiente National Park which is home to seven volcanoes and the worlds largest volcanic crater which reached 5 miles in diameter. Paragliding and tennis are very popular with tourists as are the many water sports that are on offer. Scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, fishing and rides on glass-bottomed boats can all be done in Playa de los Cancajos. When snorkelling and diving, you are likely to see various tropical fish and if you are lucky enough, then you may even get to see a turtle.
Playa de los Cancajos is home to many fish restaurants. You will find many other cuisines in the resort such as Italian, Chinese, English, American, Indian and Canarian. There are many bars and two clubs in the resort, which is actually the busiest resort in La Palma. There is live music and entertainment as well as cocktails and karaoke, however it is not as lively as it is on other islands such as Tenerife. There are plenty of shops to keep you occupied selling electrical equipment, clothing, jewellery and souvenirs. Public transport in the resort is good, as there are many buses running into other resorts. There is also a good, cheap taxi service.
Playa de los Cancajos is a resort that has good weather for most of the year. The winters remain mild, and the summer temperatures rarely fall below 25C. The water temperature in the summer is around 26C making it perfect for water sports, and even in the winter, water temperatures still remain fairly high. July and August offer the best weather, but the whole summer season is from April until November. October however does bring the most rain to the resort, closely followed by November and December.
