Mahon Resort Guide

Mahon – located along the east side of Menorca

Mahon is the capital of Mahon and it a popular resort for tourists. It is particularly popular with tourists who prefer shopping and sightseeing in the town to going to the beach. The transfer time for this resort from the airport is only around 15 minutes meaning you get plenty of time in the resort itself. There is not a beach in Mahon itself as it is not a coastal resort. The nearest beaches you will find are in Punta Prima and Es Grau. There are several hotels in Mahon as well as a few apartments. Both the hotels and the apartments have all of the products and services that you would expect them to have and all have proved to be popular with tourists as they range from 2-4-stars with the occasional 5-star.

Mahon – plenty of sightseeing and attractions to go and see

Mahon is home to some very historical features such as churches, an opera house and the neoclassical town hall. Horse racing at the hippodrome is popular with both tourists and locals and there are also plenty of other activities to enjoy in other resorts. For example, you will be able to try water sports in some of the more coastal towns. These include sailing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, windsurfing, snorkelling, surfing and scuba diving. There are plenty of excursions to go on such as boat trips, visits to prehistoric monuments, fishing or windsurfing in Fornells, sightseeing, shopping, walking and bird-watching or even golf in Son Parc.

Mahon – wide choice of places to eat and drink

Es Castell has many restaurants offering a range of cuisines. The most popular cuisines are the local and traditional ones. These are very popular among both locals and tourists. If you prefer something more familiar then you will find other cuisines such as Chinese, Italian and British. Seafood is also very popular. In the evenings, there are a few bars to keep you entertained and a couple of discos but it is not a lively resort. There are many shops in Mahon offering clothing, jewellery, souvenirs, clothing and bags. Public transport in the resort is quite good with six buses a day to Ciudadela and other similar services to other resorts.

Mahon – brilliant sunny climate

Mahon is blessed with long, warm summers, clear blue skies and hours of sunshine. Winter in Mahon is still good as it remains fairly mild. Although there is rain in the winter, it is light and moderate. There are cool breezes that sweep across the resort maintaining temperatures and making it a lot cooler for you. Summer sees temperatures reaching 30°C with 11 hours of sunshine a day. Temperatures have also been known to reach 35°C, especially during August. Very little rain falls between July and September making it a very popular summer destination. During the winter, you may only see 5 hours of sunshine and temperatures will drop to 14°C. This is between December and January, however in March, temperatures start to rise again, reaching 18°C. It is very rare that it will rain for a whole day in Mahon. When it does rain, it usually clears up very quickly.
