Travellers thinking of heading off to Florida this year for a visit to the region’s theme parks and attractions might be interested to hear that Walt Disney World has been voted the world’s best theme park.

The result was announced at the Globe Travel Awards 2012, organised by the travel industry publication Travel Weekly. The awards are unique as the winners are decided by votes solely from within the travel industry, giving Walt Disney World in Florida a truly impressive thumbs-up from those in the business!

Other companies being singled out for praise in the awards, which took place earlier in January at the Grosvenor Hotel in London, included Tourism Australia (UK office). The organisation was named the best tourist board, joining Emirates on the list of title-winners as the airline scooped yet another award, in this case as best long-haul airline. Manchester Airport was voted the best UK airport and Royal Caribbean topped the poll for best mainstream cruise operator. Celebrity Cruises was named the best premium cruise line, and Silversea took the honours in the luxury cruise category.

The 2012 awards also included a section voted for by the public, in which British Airways were voted top airline and P&O the best cruise line. The Hilton won out in the consumer voting category, being named best hotel chain.
