InfantFlying can be stressful on its own, never mind flying with an infant. In order to ensure a fun and happy trip for everyone, here are Flightline’s Top 5 Tips for flying with an infant.

1. Bring Some Presents
You can buy some good, cheap small toys and other gifts for infants at shops like the 99p Store, Poundland or QD that you can wrap up and give one present to your infant every hour of the flight. Especially good for long haul flights as infants can’t watch in-flight entertainment as nearly all the headphones are too large.

2. Pack Lots of Toys and Drawing Supplies
You can never have enough books, coloring books, crayons, stickers or toys for an infant. To make sure that it’s really special and new, always buy supplies in advance from shops such as the 99p Store, Poundland or QD. That way there is extra excitement and eagerness to read a new book or use new crayons.

3. Bring the Favourite Toys
A great tip from a seasoned mom is to start putting away favourite toys like dolls or teddy bears before a trip and then bring them out while flying. Not only is your infant excited to see the toy, but you already know they will happily play with it!

4. Don’t Forget The Sweets and Snacks
Food and drinks are a necessity while flying. Bring lots of sweets and snacks that you know your infant enjoys, but try and stay away from anything that could cause a choking hazard if the plane hits turbulence. Please note that with increased security at all UK airports, security may seize your opened containers.

5. Maintaining A Schedule
Although you’re on holiday, following your typical schedule and routine can be comforting to an infant. If your infant is use to taking a daily nap, do everything in your power to maintain that schedule. Otherwise, you could be holidaying with a cranky and unpleasant infant.

BONUS TIP
Contact the airline that you are travelling with well ahead of your departure date and inform them that you are travelling with an infant (or two) as some airlines, although they do not publicize the fact. are quite accommodating when you are travelling with an infant and sometimes prioritize seat allocation to give parents with infants more room and although officially infants have no luggage allowance, some airlines allow an extra 5Kg of luggage for items such as nappies and other essential items. One such airline that Flightline staff with infants have travelled with that is accommodating for parents with infants is Excel Airlines.

Traveling with an infant can be lots of fun, but be sure to always plan ahead. Be prepared and expect the unexpected! If you can roll with the punches, everyone is sure to have a great time!
