UK holiday favourite Tenerife has launched a new strategy aimed at boosting its tourism industry, with new promotions being combined with the regeneration of popular tourist areas.
The island’s government has launched the new scheme to attract more visitors to its shores over the coming years, and has promised to work closely with its tourism industry partners on the new initiative. Tourism minister for the island, Carlos Alonso, said that tourist areas would see regeneration and that product innovations would also be introduced.
The destination is set to see greater exposure online with the introduction of new promotional campaigns, due for launch in the coming months.
“In terms of promotional activities, we will implement more online initiatives and boost our presence in social media,” explained Mr Alonso.
The new strategy comes as Tenerife announced visitor figures for 2011 which show the destination increasing in popularity with UK travellers – one of its key source markets. Incoming visitors from the UK increased by 10.6 per cent in 2011 compared with 2010, as 1.6 million Brits took flights to Tenerife for their holidays over the course of the year.
Tenerife has long been a favourite among UK holidaymakers thanks to its year-round temperate climate and wide variety of attractions and good value resorts.
