British Airways is giving travellers yet to book their autumn half-term getaways a few ideas, with a list of its most popular destinations for the October break.

The most sought-after destinations included locations in North America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. New York was said to be BA’s top US destination, with many travellers choosing to visit the city at half-term either for a quick city break or as part of a fly-drive package. The airline also pointed out that October will see the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, and visitors during the month will be among the last to be able to climb the statue before it closes for refurbishment for a year.

The Middle East was also said to be proving a big hit for the October holiday period, as resorts such as those in Dubai offer visitors fantastic weather and a wealth of shopping and sightseeing opportunities. Accommodation in Dubai ranges from 3-5 star hotels up to the utmost in luxury at one of the many five-star luxury resorts.

British Airways started a joint venture with carriers Iberia and American Airlines a year ago, and since then BA customers have benefitted from the choice of 17 flights to New York every day. Many UK airports also offer frequent flights to Florida, and BA said the family destination was proving a popular choice for the October holiday period. The area’s tourism board Visit Florida recently launched a Facebook page for the UK and Ireland, allowing potential visitors easy access to information about the area and its attractions.
