Over 16′s who have never had their own passports will now have to go through an interview when applying for one.
The interviews will take place in one of the 69 regional passport offices in the UK. The changes to the application process are being introduced to stop identity fraud.
Interviewees will have to undergo 30 minutes of questions in which time they will have to confirm facts about themselves that other people would not know.
Interviews will be carried out after initial checks of the passport application have been checked.
It is now being advised for you to apply for your new passport 6 weeks before the day that you need it as interviews are subject to availability.
