The Old Village is a pedestrianised complex with no cars allowed on the cobbled pathways making the whole area very unusual and very pretty, however there is ample parking outside of the complex, making it is especially suited to families with children and golfers alike.The resort of Vilamoura has been beautifully landscaped with a fabulous marina in the centre, it offers first class facilities, two sandy beaches, an excellent selection of shops and restaurants as well as superb sporting facilities including six 18 hole golf courses, a sports centre, tennis courts, horse riding as well as a multitude of water sports.
The Old Village is within walking distance of Villamoura's amenities, including the Church, Medical Centre, a varied selection of Restaurants, Bars, Night Clubs and Discotheques, a Casino, Supermarkets, Shops, Banks, Post Office, Marina and the magnificent EEC blue flag Falesia beach which stretches for miles.Every weekday there is a fresh vegetable and fish market whilst on Wednesdays there is a bigger local market with bargains in leather, linen and clothes.For those who prefer not to walk there is a regular tourist shuttle train that connects the village to the main parts of Vilamoura, which is a fun way to travel, not just for the kids!
The restaurants within the complex include the upmarket Portuguese restaurant, "The Princess Garden" which is located in Garden Square. There is also "A' Casa da Largo" specializing in international food, it is located in the main square and boasts the largest menu on site, it also has a British style Pub which serves a pub menu. The newest restaurant is the "Zanzibar Restaurant and Bar", which offers affordable food on the ground floor and has a silver service Portuguese restaurant on the first floor. There are 2 snack bars and 1 bar on site serving drinks, coffee and hot and cold food all day, up to midnight during summer months. There is also an on-site supermarket for any essentials.There is 24-hour patrolling in the complex, as all the apartments and houses are privately owned they are mostly furnished to the owner's taste and have either roof terrace, garden terrace or both. From the roof terraces most of the apartments have good views towards the sea, the fairways of the golf courses and the mountains of Monchique. All apartments are fully equipped with kitchen with oven, microwave, washing machine and toaster, en suite bathroom and cable TV.
