Mykonos Resort Guide

Mykonos – located off the south east coast off the Greek mainland

Mykonos is a fairly upmarket destination and is one of the most expensive of the Greek islands. People of all ages, singles, couples and families all enjoy at least one of the resorts of Mykonos. Transfer times in Mykonos vary depending on which resort you are staying in but no transfers are excessively long. All will give you enough time to look around at surrounding scenery as well as giving you the chance to gain an understanding of the location of the resort as well as the location of your accommodation within the resort. The best beaches on the island of Mykonos are on the west, south and east coasts. Some are quieter than others, however all are covered in golden or pale sand leading down to the waters edge. The beaches in Mykonos are good for swimming and most have a brilliant choice of water sports available. As well as this, you will find both sunbeds and parasols available to hire and many beachfront restaurants and bars. Accommodation in Mykonos is good with a number of hotels, apartments, villas and even camp-sites available. You will find everything from room only, to self-catering to half-board to all-inclusive. The hotels tend to be 4-5-stars but all accommodation is from 2-stars and up.

Mykonos – a number of beach and water activities for you to enjoy

Mykonos is home to some brilliant beaches and therefore has some brilliant water sports and beach activities available. Water sports available to you are windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, paragliding, jet-skiing, water-skiing, hiring out pedalloes, going on boat trips or just going swimming. If you prefer to do more sightseeing then why not go and explore places such as Mykonos Town. Here you will find an archaeological museum, a church complex, or picturesque windmills. Platys Gialos is another resort to visit with its towers and temples. Other resorts also have plenty of monasteries and convents for you to see. Other activities for you to try include hill-walking which gives you some amazing views of the island, fishing or even visiting the water park near Elia. If you enjoy excursions then why not try one of the beach barbecues which have proved to be very popular. As well as this, there are also a number of boat trips on to neighbouring islands for shopping, sightseeing or even more nightlife.

Mykonos – a large selection of restaurants and cuisines

Mykonos has a brilliant selection of cuisines on offer so everyone is catered for. You will find beachfront restaurants and taverns as well as ones set in the centre of towns or in attractive gardens. The best selection of cuisines are in Mykonos Town. Here you will find the traditional Greek cuisine and seafood, Italian, Mexican, Chinese and British. A favourite in many places is fish and chips. The nightlife is also concentrated in Mykonos Town with a number of bars offering cocktails, live music and Greek evenings. You will also find some all-night discos and nightclubs to enjoy. Elsewhere, you will also find local bars a taverns as well as beach bars offering music and dancing. All of the resorts have souvenir shops and mini markets, however Mykonos Town has clothing, jewellery, souvenirs, leather goods, perfumes and crafts available. There are buses taking you around to various resorts as well as taxis which are available at set fares. You can also hire bikes or cars or take ferries to other islands.

Mykonos – long hot Mediterranean summers

Mykonos enjoys a Mediterranean climate of very long and hot summers. July and August are the hottest months in the resort with an average temperature of 25°C although this commonly rises to highs of well over 30°C. May is the official start to the summer with temperatures at 21°C which quickly rises to 25°C by June. There is normally no rainfall over July and August and the evenings remain hot at highs of 22°C. July and August see 12 hours of sunshine a day which drops to around 5 hours a day in the winter. Spring and Autumn are pleasant times to come if you are not keen on very hot weather, with temperatures mostly ranging between 16-20°C. Winters tend to be mild in Mykonos with temperatures staying at around 10°C. Between October and May you can expect to see some rainfall but not to the extent that we are used to. December if the wettest month in Mykonos however it still tends to remain fairly warm.
