Kos - The Second Largest Of The Dodecanese Islands
Kos is a very popular holiday destination with British holiday makers looking for brilliant package holidays. Kos has something for everyone and welcomes families, couples and singles. Some areas on the island can be fairly quiet, however in the resort of Kardamena you will find some brilliant nightlife keeping you entertained all night long. Transfer times in Kos vary depending on which part of the island you are staying on but none are excessively long. The beaches in Kos are some of the best around with golden sands leading down to the clear waters edge. The beaches are very popular among both tourists and locals and offer a great place for you to go and relax and top up your tan. Sunbeds and parasols are all available for hire and there are plenty of water sports available to you. Accommodation in Kos is also good with a wide range of choices available to you. These include self-catering apartments and villas and hotels offering room only, half-board or all-inclusive.
Kos - Plenty Of Beach Activities And Water Sports To Enjoy
Kos beaches are very picturesque and perfect for relaxing on. However, if you feel that you want more activity then there are a number of water sports available. Many people choose to try the professional scuba diving courses that are available at some of the beaches in Kos. You get taught how to dive, how to use the equipment and taken out to your dive by professional divers and trainers. Other water sports available include snorkelling, surfing, windsurfing, jet-skiing, water-skiing, paragliding, swimming, hiring pedalloes or going on one of the many boat trips. If you prefer to try something else with your day then there are plenty of sites for you to go and visit, such as the 14th century Castle of the Knights located in Kos Town. There is also some gorgeous countryside that is perfect for walking and cycling. There are plenty of excursions through the mountains to visit villages such as Lagoudi. Boat trips are popular and take you to other resorts and other islands such as Kalymnos. Day excursions to Turkey prove popular for even more sites to see.
Kos - Plenty Of Places To Choose From For Evening Entertainment
Kos has a number of taverns and restaurants for you to choose from. A favourite cuisine is the traditional Greek food and seafood, however in some resorts you will also find a number of other cuisines such as, Chinese, Italian, British, Indian and a range of fast food. The nightlife varies depending on which resort you are staying in. Many resorts have pubs and evening entertainment in the form of live music however for a lively nightlife, head to the resorts of Kardamena and Kos Town. Here you will find nightclubs, pubs, taverns and discos offering live music, dances, shows, cocktails, karaoke and other entertainment. As with the nightlife, shopping is better in some areas than others. You will find souvenir shops, clothing shops, shoes, bags, perfume, jewellery and food available in at least on of the resorts in Kos. Public transport tends to be good with buses taking you around the island to various resorts and a number of taxis available offering reasonable fares. Care and motorbike hire are also available.
Kos - Long Hot Mediterranean Summers
Kos enjoys a Mediterranean climate of very long and hot summers. July and August are the hottest months on the island with an average temperature of 25°C although this commonly rises to highs of well over 30°C. May is the official start to the summer with temperatures at 21°C which quickly rises to 25°C by June. There is normally no rainfall over July and August and the evenings remain hot at highs of 22°C. July and August see 12 hours of sunshine a day which drops to around 5 hours a day in the winter. Spring and Autumn are pleasant times to come if you are not keen on very hot weather, with temperatures mostly ranging between 16-20°C. Winters tend to be mild in Kos with temperatures staying at around 10°C. Between October and May you can expect to see some rainfall but not to the extent that we are used to. December if the wettest month in Kos, however it still tends to remain fairly warm.
