Crete – the largest and most southern of the Greek islands

Holidays in Crete are proving tremendously popular this year for British holidaymakers. Crete is an island that has something for everyone. All of the resorts are different, some suit couples, others families and others suit young groups of singles looking for a lively holiday. Crete is very popular with British tourists although all nationalities can be seen here. The beaches in Crete are ideal for people looking for a beach based holiday. The beaches are covered in golden sands that lead down to the crystal clear waters. Some of the beaches are also located in a picturesque setting, backed by snow-capped mountains. There are plenty of activities at the beaches, including water sports and many have bars and restaurants nearby. The accommodation in Crete ranges from basic camp-sites to self-catering apartments, to 5-star, all-inclusive hotels. The majority of the accommodation ranges from 2-4-stars although there are also a number of 5-star hotels. All accommodation has the facilities that you would expect and all are well located. It is very picturesque and one of the natural wonders of Europe. It is a brilliant National Park and definitely a must-see attraction. Crete – a wide number of restaurants to choose from

Singles in Crete offer dozens of interesting excursions. Crete is home to a large number of restaurants and therefore you will find a large number of cuisines available to you. The main cuisine available is obviously the traditional Greek cuisine, although you will also find a lot of seafood. If you prefer something more familiar then you are in luck as there are a number of Chinese, Italian, British and Mexican cuisines. It is guaranteed that there is something for everyone. The nightlife in Crete varies in the different resorts. Some are very lively with nightclubs, discos, bars, pubs and restaurants open until the early hours of the morning, while others are more tame and tend to either just have a few bars which do not stay open too late or have entertainment based around the hotels. Shopping in Crete is good in some areas with jewellery shops, clothing shops, souvenirs, leather and antique stores and a number of supermarkets. Public transport is also good with a number of buses taking you around the resorts. Taxis are also available as is car and bike hire. Crete – plenty of sunshine all year round

Crete has the longest of all the summer seasons on the Greek Islands as it is the most southerly. The summer season lasts from April until October and it tends to be very hot and dry and then mild in the winter. However all year round, the weather is good making it an ideal holiday destination all year round. From the beginning of the summer in April, the temperatures are already around 18°C and there are around 8 hours of sunshine a day. Temperatures continue to rise throughout the summer with them peaking at around 27°C in August. By then, there are 13 hours of sunshine a day. There is a gentle coastal breeze that keeps the temperature at a manageable level. From September to October there are 9-11 hours of sunshine a day and temperatures still remain at around 20°C. The winter rainfall starts in December, however the wettest months are January and February. There is a minimum of 4 hours of sunshine a day in this period with temperatures dropping to around 12°C. The east of Crete tends to be very hot and dry with the west being slightly cooler. The cooler mountainous regions of Crete tend to see snow during the winter.
