Protaras – located on the east coast of Cyprus

Protaras is a brilliant resort for families and couples who are looking for entertainment both day and night. Transfers from Larnaca Airport to Protaras take an hour and a half to 2 hours. This gives you plenty of time to look around at the scenery that other areas of Cyprus have to offer. It also gives you plenty of time gain an understanding of the location of your resort and the location of your accommodation within you resort. The beaches in Protaras are brilliant and very attractive, with fine white sand and crystal-clear waters. The beach is safe and suitable for children and you will find plenty of sunbeds and parasols for hire. Be sure to get to the beach early during the high season as the sunbeds and parasols go very quickly. You will find plenty of places to stay in Protaras, with over 100 hotels and apartments to choose from. There are plenty of facilities in Protaras and you will find that most of the accommodation ranges from 3-5 stars. Flights to Larnaca take approximately 4.5 hours.

Protaras – plenty of activities to keep you entertained over night

There are plenty of water sports for you to enjoy in Protaras. These include windsurfing, snorkelling, surfing, scuba diving, parasailing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, fishing or even sailing. You can also take out pedalloes. Another popular activity in Protaras is the water park in nearby Ayia Napa. It is a very large water park with plenty of pools and slides to choose from. Cycling is a popular activity and is also a great way to get around the resort and see the sites. There are also plenty of boat trips for you to enjoy. If you prefer excursions then why not go into some of the other nearby resorts for some sightseeing. Hiking can also be done and for some lively evening entertainment, head into Ayia Napa. A trip to the Troodos Mountains is recommended as it enables you to see some brilliant views.

Protaras – wide selection of places to eat and drink

Protaras is home to some brilliant restaurants with some traditional Cypriot cuisine and a lot of seafood. You will also find a lot of international cuisine such as Italian, British, Chinese, Indian and a lot of fast food as well. There are a variety of bars in Protaras which offer live music and karaoke in the evenings. You will also find a few discos as well. However, if you want a really lively evening with bars and clubs open until dawn then head to Ayia Napa. There are plenty of places for you to shop in Protaras and you will find souvenirs, leather goods and jewellery as well as other little crafts. Public transport in Protaras is good with a regular bus service in and around the resort. They will take you to other resorts such as Ayia Napa and Larnaca. Taxis are also available 24 hours a day.

Protaras - very hot temperatures in the summer months

Protaras is a very hot resort with temperatures sometimes reaching above 40°C. You are guaranteed to need high factor sun cream when visiting this destination. July and August are the hottest months in Protaras with average temperatures of 35°C. You will also have 13 hours of pure sunshine a day. Winters are very short and mild with January and February being the coldest months. Even though they are cold, they still have temperatures of at least 15°C. Rainfall only occurs 40 days out of the year but this is very short lived and the sun still tends to shine. There is not always a breeze in Protaras so many people decide to keep to the shade at times. The temperature will not fall below 30°C from June to September, leaving you with warm sea temperatures, making it perfect for water sports. The night also remains warm so it is advised that you get air conditioning in your accommodation. The warm evenings however make the famous beach parties even more popular.
