Las Palmas Resort Guide

Las Palmas - Located in the North-East of Gran Canaria

Las Palmas is the capital city of Gran Canaria, and is well suited to couples and families who enjoy culture and an atmosphere that is not purely concentrated around the beach and the sunshine. The transfer time from the airport into the resort is around 20-30 minutes meaning you do get spend a long time in the resort itself. Las Palmas is home to a beautiful beach known as Las Canteras Beach. The beach is full of fine, golden sand and has calm waters making it safe for children. Accommodation in Las Palmas is very good with most hotels ranging from 3-5-star. You will find many of these hotels offering half board, full board or all-inclusive, while the few apartments in the resort offer self-catering.

Las Palmas – perfect for cultural holidays

Being the capital city, there is plenty for people to do. There is plenty of sight-seeing to do as there are many historical sights such as museums and cathedrals. Horse-riding, mountain climbing and biking and tennis are all popular activities in Las Palmas. You will also find many water sports on the beach including windsurfing, scuba diving, jet-skiing, snorkelling and surfing. If you enjoy excursions, then you can take a long day trip to the Sahara Desert. If you still want more after this, then there is the volcanic crater of Pico de Bandama.

Las Palmas – plenty of places to eat and drink

Las Palmas is filled with restaurants offering many different cuisines. These include Canarian, English, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, French and Mexican among others. There are also a few fast food places near the seafront should you want it after a night out. There are plenty of bars around the resort, some staying open until late. There is all sorts of music so everyone is catered for and there is also a casino that stays open until late. There are many shops in Las Palmas such as designer boutiques, shoe shops, electrical shops, jewellery stores, souvenir stores and even department stores. There are three main shopping centres where you will be able to find everything that you want. The public transport is brilliant, with buses running every half hour throughout the day taking you to various other resorts as well as taxis that offer good rates.

Las Palmas – cooler than other resorts

Being located in the north means that Las Palmas is slightly cooler than other resorts found in the south. Although you still do get a lot of sunshine, the climate in the north is slightly wetter. There is slightly more rain in the winter months but there is still sun all year round with the same high temperatures both in the summer and the winter. Las Palmas is still a very warm resort and remains warm throughout the whole year. You experience 12 hours of sunshine a day in the summer and 7 hours a day in the winter.
