La Palma - Located in the North-West of the Canaries
The island of La Palma is a quiet and peaceful island that is very popular with couples and families. The landscape of La Palma is very picturesque with mountains and volcanoes all around. The beaches in La Palma are full of dark sands and beautiful blue waters. There are many 3-4-star hotels located in La Palma offering a variety of board basis up to all-inclusive. There are also a few apartments and villas that offer a self-catering board basis.
La Palma – plenty to keep you occupied
There are plenty of water sports for you to choose from in many of the resorts on the island of La Palma. Water sports include windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, jet-skiing, water-skiing, sailing and fishing. Hiking and horse-riding are very popular activities, especially round near the mountains. Mountain biking is also very popular, as is climbing a volcano. La Palma is home to the worlds biggest crater and this is a very popular sight to see. There are also many boat trips such as going on a glass-bottom boat or even whale and dolphin watching. The dolphins are normally seen close to the boat, whereas the whales stay a bit further out.
La Palma – plenty of places to eat and drink
There are many restaurants in La Palma for you to choose from. You will also find a number of cuisines on the island such as Italian, Canarian, English, Chinese, sea food and even American fast-food. There are bars around the resort and the resort offering the liveliest of nightlife is Los Cancajos. However, compared to the other Canary Islands, it is very tame. The island is perfect for nature lovers who enjoy looking at landscapes and sculptures. There are plenty of buses and taxis around the island taking you to various different resorts. You will also find that fares are very reasonable. There are plenty of shops on the island selling souvenirs, jewellery, electrical goods and clothing. The products are also a lot cheaper here than they are back home.
La Palma – constant sunshine all year long
The weather in La Palma is very similar to the other Canary Islands as there are warm temperatures all year round. The temperature rarely drops below 20°C even in winter, making it a popular winter sun destination. The south of the island is very hot and dry, whereas the north can be slightly wetter and cooler. August is the hottest month, with temperatures reaching above 25°C. There is around 10 hours of sunshine during summer which falls to around 5 hours in the winter. Water temperatures are high making water sports perfect. Children are safe to go swimming as the under water currents are fairly low, especially during the summer.
