Arrecife Resort Guide

Arrecife - Located on the South coast of Lanzarote

Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote and is a very friendly resort with a lot of character. Airport transfers to Arrecife take around 20 minutes, so you can spend a long time in your resort. Arrecife has something for everyone and appeals to couples, young groups and families. Arrecife beaches are one of the main reasons why so many people visit the resort each year. The sand is very fine and white with beautiful turquoise seas. The beach has been awarded the European Blue Flag for its cleanliness. You will find showers, parasols and sun loungers on the beach but be warned, it does get busy very quickly. There are both hotels and villas in Arrecife, all ranging from 2-5-star. The most famous hotel in Lanzarote is located in Arrecife; the Arrecife Gran Hotel. The top floor of this hotel is a restaurant where you can also enjoy fantastic views of the resort.

Arrecife – perfect for all activities

Book a flight to Arrecife to enjoy activities such as windsurfing, jet-skiing, scuba diving, fishing and snorkelling, made all the more enjoyable by the warm water temperatures. Horse-riding is a popular choice as you can ride along the beach at sunset. There are two historical castles in Arrecife, with one acting as home to the Archaeological Museum and the other being home to the Museum of Contemporary Art. If you want to take an excursion, the Timanfaya National Park should be your first stop. There are coach trips taking you there and you can see mini geysers and get a good look at the volcanic landscape Lanzarote has on offer. There are many fiestas in Arrecife that happen throughout the year so you are likely to see one at some point.

Arrecife – amazing views of the island

Arrecife has many bars, restaurants and cafés for you to enjoy. The restaurants offer many cuisines including seafood, Italian, Chinese, Canarian and English. The best restaurant is at the top of the Arrecife Gran Hotel, where you can enjoy your food as well as some amazing views. There are many cafés around the resort and a few bars offering cocktails, live music and television. There are shops along the main street of the resort, offering jewellery, souvenirs and clothing. There is a daily fruit and vegetable market, as well another large street market held on Sunday mornings. There are very good taxis in Arrecife as well as buses taking you to and from Costa Teguise. The buses run 7 days a week from early morning, until late at night. There are also buses taking you into Puerto del Carmen as well as other resorts on the island.

Arrecife – warm temperatures throughout the year

Arrecife is located in the south, meaning it sees the best of the weather. It is very dry and hot in Arrecife with very little rainfall. The summer temperatures are around 28°C in June, July and August, with January and February still reaching over 20°C. There are rarely more than 16 days of rain and when it does rain, it clears up very quickly. The rain normally falls between December and February but you still tend to get around 7 hours of sunshine a day.
