The seasons in Australia are opposite to those in Europe and North America. There are two zones in Australia, known as the tropical zone and the temperature zone. The tropical zone has two seasons, summer which is wet and winter which is dry. The temperature zone has all four seasons. Spring to summer is hot with hot or mild temperatures at night. Autumn to winter consists of warm days and cool nights with rain and sunshine. Lightweight clothing is needed in the summer and warmer clothes are needed in the winter in the southern states. In the north, light clothing is more likely to be worn all year round.
